DURHAM, N.C., March 23, 2021 – FlexGen received two orders to design and optimize energy storage systems for use in large-scale data centers utilizing its reliable, affordable FlexGen HybridOS energy management system. The application of FlexGen’s innovative energy storage architecture to hyper-scale data centers marks a significant step forward in the management of resilient and clean energy for critical computing infrastructure. According to the International Energy Agency, data centers consume over 200 billion kWh of power annually, with energy demands growing rapidly to serve our growing demand for digital services.
FlexGen energy storage systems enable the displacement of uninterruptible power supplies that have historically been located within the data center building. While providing reliable back-up, these systems required large cooling loads and occupied space that could be used for additional computing capacity. The FlexGen solution provides resilient, clean, and flexible back-up power by utilizing our Li-Ion storage architecture and HybridOS Energy Management System. Initial analysis of the FlexGen solution indicates significant savings over traditional UPS plus diesel generator back-up systems with rates of return in excess of 30 percent and payback periods under two years.
